Moses Ting's inspiration notebook.
Towards the end of Change by Design, Tim Brown provides a number of inspiring themes to help promote the future of design thinking:
- begin at the beginning
- take a human-centered approach
- fail early, fail often - Leaders should encourage experimentation and accept that there is nothing wrong with failure as long as it happens early and becomes a source of learning.
- get professional help
- share the inspiration
- blend big and small projects
- budget to the pace of innovation
- find talent any way you can - The trick is spotting them, nurturing them, and freeing them to do what they do best. Who would rather build a prototype then write a memo? Who seems to get more out of working with a team then holed up in a tastefully appointed cubicle? People are your raw material and your energy supply.
- design for the cycle
- don’t ask what? ask why?
- open your eyes
- make it visual
- build on the ideas of others
- demand options - don’t settle for the first good idea that comes into your head or seize the first promising solution presented to you.
- balance your portfolio
- design a life - think of life as a prototype. Conduct experiments, make discoveries, and change our perspectives.
